Innovation – as tool for successful adaptation to economic changes and challenges – is the engine of development in the European Union. On level of the member states, including Hungary, the aim was to establish an effectively functioning institutional system in order to promote the successful absorption of EU and national funds, improvement of the absorption capacity, and generate increase in innovation investments.
The South Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency (STRIA) – working since 1 July 2008 – has been established by the South Transdanubian Regional Development Agency and other regional bodies interested in innovation and economy development. Since its foundation STRIA actively contributed to development of regional SMEs – in form of joint projects cooperating with higher educational institutions, local governments and civil organisations.
